With Dr. Dre and Eminem set to drop albums this year, 2009 promises to be a gargantuan year for hip hop music. The most anticipated album with a 2009 record release date as far as I was concerned, is Mos Def's forthcoming album The Ecstatic. This was before Nas & Damian Marley recently announced the details of their collaborative effort Distant Relatives set to release in late June. OMG! The Greatest MC, arguably, and the coolest Marley offspring, maybe, on one record. The record hopes to fuse hip hop and reggae and provide commentary to some of the social issues surrounding Africa. Imagine what it would sound like:
Road to Zion - Damian Marley
Purple - Nas
Welcome to Jamrock - Damien Marley
Warrior Song - 9th Wonder
Khaki Suit - Bounty Killer/Damian "Junior Gong" Marley/Eek-A-Mouse
And just because:
Mos Def - Flowers - The Ecstatic avail 6/9/09
Your pal,
Al Pal.
